Stephen has been working in the legal profession for over 20 years. A graduate of New York Law School, he practices both Family Law and Injury Law, and appears in both State and Federal Courts. In addition to traditional divorce litigation, Stephen has received extensive training in collaborative divorce and mediation, which is used to resolve disputes without litigation, when appropriate.

Stephen grew up in Iowa, and graduated from the University of Iowa, receiving a Bachelor's Degree in Philosophy and Literature. He studied logic and philosophy and received a Master's Degree from the Graduate Center of the City University of New York.

Stephen accepted the Oregon Trial Lawyer's Public Justice Award in 2003, which he received on behalf of the Oregon Advocacy Center for work he did in connection with a lawsuit entitled Henderson v. Kitzhaber, et al. , which succeeded in protecting 24 individuals with severe mental and physical disabilities who were being evicted from their residential care facilities due to state budget cuts.

He is admitted to practice law in Oregon, the United States District Court, US Court of Federal Claims, and the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals. He is a member of the Oregon Trial Lawyers Association, the Multnomah Bar Association, and the Washington County Bar Association.
